Welcome to the OSD-CI Experiment

You are invited to participate in an online experiment run by the OSD-CI. In this experiment, we hope to evaluate the effectiveness of online behavior in classifying (tagging) photographs of earthquake damage. If you decide to participate, we will ask you to login to a secure website, answer a few questions and take a brief tutorial. The tutorial will provide all the information you will need to tag photographs. We estimate that tagging each photograph will take less than two minutes. After completing the preliminary set of 25 photos you may continue tagging as many of the 400 photographs as you chose.
  • You will receive $10 if you choose to participate in this experiment.

  • Prior to the tutorial, you will also receive information about additional benefits you may derive from participating in this experiment.

  • If you choose to participate this experiment, it is important that you do not discuss the details of the study with others.

  • You will have seven days to tag photos from the time you complete the tutorial.
Information that is obtained from you, in connection with this study, will remain confidential. You will be assigned a nondescript username within the web portal. Your responses to various questions and your classifications of photographs cannot be tied to you personally and your username will not be disclosed to anyone. Your decision whether or not to participate will not prejudice your future relations with any of the professors involved in the project. If you decide to participate, you are free to withdraw your consent and discontinue participation at any time without penalty.
